Our Programs

Blanket Distribution

The Terai region in southern Nepal experiences harsh winter temperatures that can be particularly challenging for marginalized communities, such as the Musahar. This group faces significant economic hardships and often lacks adequate resources to stay warm during the cold months. The distribution of blankets and warm clothing is crucial for their survival and well-being. Additionally, climate change compounds the difficulties faced by the Musahar community. Erratic weather patterns and extreme climate events disrupt agricultural productivity, which is vital for their livelihoods. As a result, they face food insecurity and increased poverty. These interconnected challenges highlight the urgent need for support and advocacy to improve living conditions for marginalized groups. Initiatives that provide immediate relief, like blanket distributions, are essential in addressing both current needs and promoting long-term resilience against climate change.

Solar Home System in Kataiya

We have successfully installed 20 solar home systems for 20 households in Kataiya village, located in Saptari District. These systems were provided to the most deserving families from a group of 100 marginalized and vulnerable families who attended the meeting in Kataiya. The selection process took into account several important criteria, such as marginality, economic status, and the purchasing power of each family compared to other community members. Among the recipients are families facing potential displacement due to the construction of a road connecting the village to the Indian border. From a climate perspective, the installation of these solar home systems plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable energy solutions. By harnessing solar power, these families are reducing their reliance on fossil fuels, which helps to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change. This transition not only benefits the environment but also enhances energy security and resilience for these vulnerable communities.

Books for Brighter Futures

This initiative aimed to alleviate the financial burden on families and ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has the necessary resources to succeed in school. Through this effort, we reached many students in local schools, helping to build a stronger foundation for their academic journey.

Skill Development Campaign

We have completed a 15-day women's empowerment and livelihood enhancement sewing project in Kataiya. A total of 15 women participated, learning basic sewing techniques and crafting skills for local clothing. The program was a significant success, and we took advantage of all available platforms to publicize it, generating positive feedback for our supporting organizations, such as Workaway and Samaj Sahakarya Saptari. We will soon send you the project completion reports and financial details. We look forward to receiving continued support from Workaway.

Support a Girl Child: "Empower Her Future"

Investing in a girl child is an investment in a stronger, more equitable society. This campaign emphasizes the importance of girls' education, health, and safety, equipping them with the tools they need to thrive and escape the cycle of poverty. Additionally, we are committed to initiatives against child marriage and the dowry system in the Madhesh region, working to empower girls and protect their rights. Your support can make a significant difference in transforming their lives.

Voices of the Displaced

Voices of the Displaced is a platform that brings light to the lived experiences of those uprooted by crisis, disaster, and neglect. In a world that often overlooks the marginalized, we aim to amplify their voices — not as victims, but as resilient individuals with stories that deserve to be heard.

During the height of the pandemic, we stood with displaced and vulnerable families in Kataiya, delivering essential COVID relief packages. These included rice, lentils, potatoes, onions, soybeans, and cooking oil — simple staples that carried the weight of survival and hope in a time of uncertainty.

Through acts of compassion and listening, Voices of the Displaced continues to support those left behind — reminding the world that even in silence, there is strength.

Every voice matters. Every action counts.

Plant a Tree: Grow Green, Breathe Clean

Upon receiving the notice, our community was filled with distress. With no land available for rebuilding, our fears grew as the government planned to demolish homes, possibly even during the night. In Dakneshwori Municipality Ward 6, Kataiya, approximately 150 Musahar and Malah families face the threat of losing their homes. We respectfully urge local authorities and the government to assess our situation fairly and provide appropriate compensation.

Sustainable Housing Program

The Sustainable Housing Program promotes eco-friendly, affordable, and resilient housing solutions. It aims to reduce carbon footprints while ensuring healthy, safe, and dignified living for all, especially for low-income and climate-vulnerable communities.
